LOCALS TO SHAPE FUTURE OF EDEN PROJECT MORECAMBE

The future of Eden Project Morecambe will be inspired by experiences of local residents at a special landmark event.

The two-day gathering, known as Rhythm Makers, will take place at Morecambe Winter Gardens on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Visitors will be invited to co-create the content and visitor experience for the proposed eco-tourism attraction.

Si Bellamy, Eden Project’s Chief Transformation Officer, said the project was "for Morecambe and by the people of Morecambe".

'Starting point'

Residents are being invited to share their experiences of life in Morecambe Bay which will be used to shape future exhibits.

Mr Bellamy said the work presented at Rhythm Makers would be "a starting point to help inspire conversation with the community".

He said: "We are hugely excited to hear the stories and personal experiences of people in Morecambe Bay.

"We have always been clear that this is a project for Morecambe and by the people of Morecambe and the Rhythm Makers process is a key component of this.”

Eden Project Morecambe will feature three large shell-shaped pavilions overlooking Morecambe Bay.

The proposed attraction will cost £100m in total, £50m of which has been secured from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund, with the remaining £50m sourced from private and philanthropic funds.

Once opened, Eden Project Morecambe is expected to create about 1,400 local jobs and attract almost a million visitors every year.

It will be a sister site to the original Eden Project, near St Austell, Cornwall.

The free two-day event takes place on 23 April between 14:00 and 19:30 BST and on 24 April between 08:00 BST and 14:30 BST, and is open to everyone.

More in-depth workshops will run on the hour and there will also be children’s activities and light refreshments available.
